Pashmina is an exclusive form of cashmere wool from Changthangi goats in the remote regions of the Himalayas. It is the finest, softest, warmest, and most luxurious cashmere found in nature.
The goats grow an ultra-fine, inner coat of hair that insulates them during the long, harsh winters of the Himalayas. This inner coat is collected each spring, spun and woven into premium pashmina shawls and stoles.
Pashmina has been hand-woven in Kashmir for over 2000 years. The first pashmina shawls were created out of necessity to survive the harsh Himalayan winters. The art of hand weaving the perfect pashmina shawl has taken thousands of years to master, and is still a well-kept secret that only a few Kashmiri families possess.
Pure pashmina is fragile, and power-looms cannot replicate the delicate art of hand weaving pure pashmina. In order to weave using power-looms, pashmina is strengthened with nylon. This nylon is then dissolved to yield a pure pashmina fabric. The strength, quality, and durability of the resulting fabric is significantly compromised.
In order to ensure the best product quality, every pashmina from Crishna India is therefore exclusively handwoven on Himalayan cider hand-looms.
